Beaches & Beach clubs

The waters around Kalkan Bay have a Blue Flag award for cleanliness, they are vivid turquoise, crystal clear and ideal for water sports.  Kalkan itself has a pebble beach, which is situated in the Old Town to the east of the harbour. Sun beds and umbrellas are available for hire, toilets and a shower and there are plenty of nearby cafes for refreshments. There are stunning beaches in the immediate vicinity.

Patara BeachPatara Beach

Patara beach, (the birth place of St.Nicholas – Santa Claus) 20 minutes by car or taxi is part of a national park. Entrance to the beach is through the ruins of the ancient city and if you come by car, you’ll need to pay a small entrance fee. Patara boasts 18 kilometres of golden sand shelving gently into the sea, bordered at each end by mountains and lengthways by sand dunes. Voted as one of the best beaches in the world by The Sunday Times the only building on its entire 18 kilometres of sand is a small café with toilet and shower facilities, sun beds and umbrellas are available for hire. The beach is never crowded with an absence of loud music and water sports. It is closed after sunset to protect the resident Loggerhead turtles who make for the sand to lay their eggs.

Ravine at KaputasKaputaş Beach

Kaputaş beach is a ten-minute dolmus or taxi ride from Kalkan. It is a beautiful sand and pebble beach dramatically positioned at the foot of a huge ravine down many, many steps! The sea here is almost fluorescent it is so vivid in colour.

Beach Clubs

Accessible by water-taxi from the harbour, taxi or on foot, these clubs are much more than simply platforms cut into the cliff side – they provide a stunning setting and a peaceful haven in which torelax by the water’s edge. Offering sunbathing, swimming, numerous water-sports, including, scuba diving, snorkeling, water skiing, jet skiing etc restaurant and bar facilities, sunbeds and umbrellas are available for hire. Many offer free pick up and return taxi service.
The swimming at the beach clubs is fabulous, with access steps leading directly from the rocks into the clear waters of the bay, some parts of which are freshened by natural underground springs.

Villa MahalAt the last count Kalkan boasted seven beach clubs

  • Palm Beach Club

Kalamar Bay Beach Club www.kalkandiving.com

Our local Beach club deserves a special mention because it really is a great venue to enjoy the sun, sea and water sports with waiters who become friends.  There are plenty of sun beds and umbrellas on different levels but being a popular club its best not to get there too late and find all the beds taken!  There is a welcome undercover area with huge comfy cushions, shaded from the sun with blinds. A very good restaurant and the ice cold ‘Efes’ beer served in frozen glasses is a winner as is the freshly made iced lemonade.  A huge water trampoline is a great attraction, especially for the teenagers!  Jet skis, banana boat rides and ringo’s ensure great fun for all the family. Pick up and return from the villa is included in the daily charge of £4.50 per person. This charge also includes a sun bed and an umbrella plus use of the pedallos, canoes and the water trampoline plus all other amenities are included in the price hire of about £4.50 per person.  Your account with drinks and meals can be settled at the end of the day.

Villa MahalMahal Beach Club

The most elegant of these beach clubs is the Mahal. The Mahal Beach Club is undoubtedly Kalkan's most sophisticated - consisting of platforms built into the hillside, hidden under the welcoming shade of the olive trees. Sun beds are spaciously dotted around ensuring that visitors will always find their own private spot from which to enjoy the sound of the waves or the jazz and classical music that is occasionally played. A waterside restaurant provides refreshments throughout the day.  Not the place to take small children.
